Individual modules from the MSc in Data Analytics for Government (MDataGov) programme

Modules from the Master’s in Data Analytics for Government (MDataGov) programme can be taken as standalone courses for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with optional assessment, and credits gained can be counted towards the MSc degree in the future. These can usually be taken at ONS sites, Oxford Brookes University, University of Southampton, University of Glasgow and Cardiff University.

Although modules cannot currently be taken in person at ONS sites due to COVID-19, we are working with our partners to make modules available online for distance learning. The latest course information from our partners is available below.


Cardiff University 2020-2021 academic year

The following modules are available as standalone courses in the 2020-21 academic year at Cardiff University:

  • Sampling Fundamentals
  • Statistical Computing
  • Data Science Foundations
  • Statistics in Government

The fee is £550 per course. Modules will run over the standard academic semesters and credits gained can be counted towards the MSc degree. You can apply on the Cardiff University website. Applications close on 4th September 2020.

The full-time MDataGov programme is available from September 2020 and the fee is £8,730. A part-time programme will be available for the 2021-2022 academic year, along with other standalone modules.


MDataGov modules delivered by University of Glasgow (Distance Learning)

Summer 2020 – unassessed option only

If you are interested in broadening your coding skills this summer, University of Glasgow is offering MDataGov modules via distance learning this summer, subject to demand. The modules below are available as non-credit bearing courses (unassessed route) to home and international students.

A minimum of 10 registrations per module is required for courses to go ahead.

MDataGov modules delivered by Oxford Brookes University

Summer 2020 (distance learning)

We are pleased to announce that the MSc in Data Analytics for Government (MDataGov) modules will be running as online learning from June to August 2020. (for details see modules summary below). The closing date for applications is two weeks before course starts.

The fee is £425 per course. The modules will each run over a full week, Monday-Friday from 9am until 4.00pm.
