Senior Data Scientist

Steven is a Data Scientist in the campus with a PhD in Applied Mathematics where he researched and modelled network dynamics in biological organisms. Previously to joining the campus he worked at National Grid and Welsh Water where he was focused on investment optimisation, network capability analysis and developing analytical methods for assessment of operational risk.
At the campus Steven is interested using machine learning, natural language processing and computer vision to solve problems. He also enjoys supporting other government departments and organisations through training and mentoring.

Many datasets contain variables that consist of short free-text descriptions of items or products. This technical report describes how we developed and implemented a natural language processing (NLP) pipeline that produces a well structured and hierarchical dataset.
