Steve Denman
Data Scientist
Steve is a data scientist at the ONS Data Science Campus, working in the Mobility squad. Steve’s background is in geospatial analysis with a focus on travel networks and urban mobility. Steve has a particular interest in active travel and the influences of the built and natural environments on travel choices. Steve has also worked extensively with large mobility datasets, such as those derived from GPS, to infer route choices and network performance.
Prior to joining the Data Science Campus, Steve worked as a research associate at the Martin Centre for Architectural and Urban Design at the University of Cambridge. It was at the Martin Centre where Steve undertook a PhD, developing models to understand the influence of policy and the built and natural environments on the decision to cycle to work.
Steve also has prior experience in the public sector, where he worked in several roles focused on research, data visualisation and geospatial analysis.
